It works fantastic for a base layer I don’t have to bulk up like I used to.
1.The knit base layer.
2. A lightweight warming poly propylene layer.
3.a lightweight insulting layer.
4. Windbreaker.
Walking or running remove layers as needed.
This seems to work okay - but it did not hold its shape after a first wash so it worries me what will happen over a few months. This was my “test purchase” but now I’m just hoping that it doesn’t fall apart.
Update: added a Star - performance is good - keeps you warm and breathes very well so your always comfortable.
I like the weight and feel. A good price for a base layer. You might want to go up in size, based on the chart I was a L/XL but the 2XL/3XL fits me perfectly.
I typically wear a large shirt but ordered the 2XL-3XL based on others' experiences. The shirt stretches a lot, but it is still extremely tight. I've only worn the shirt twice and can't say for sure yet whether the mesh is better than a typical base layer in allowing sweat to evaporate away from the skin. Time will tell.
Have been wearing to compare with other open mesh baselayers. I wear size large. I ordered size L/XL. At first, I thought it would be way too small. It stretched out nicely and does indeed create a warm air bubble barrier when out in the cold. It does need to be paired with a good quality baselayer over it. 2 baselayers! Who would've thunk it?!
As others have stated, runs quite small. I did size up and wasn’t terrible. Due to the compression and going larger size you lose quite a bit of the mesh openings. It would need to be stretched more to benefit as much from the mesh but I couldn’t imagine how uncomfortable it would be wearing my normal size due to how much compression you’d have to endure. Overall, not a bad piece and I’ll know more after wearing on some hikes. I have the Brynje thermal wool mesh that I love and was hoping for a cheaper alternative to have extras to swap out regularly. I know, wishful thinking, but if it performs well after using more I’ll actually probably order more.
Well, I wish I had ordered this back two months ago when it was cold. I live in Northern California and was very impressed today when I took it on its first ride and was a bit warm for the day! It's way better than my merino wool and I am ordering more.
